Dinner and a Movie in Texas, Eat So They Can Style!

Eat So They Can host Melinda Wulf decided to join the campaign and chose Emergency Relief as her cause. After reading about Melissa's event, I am inspired to do something like this myself!

Dinner and a Movie with friends? Perfect!
"I held a dinner and a movie at the Lion & Rose which is a British Pub and restaurant in San Antonio. We had a private room and they printed menus just for the event. The ticket price covered dinner, a drink, and mini desserts as well as the movie, 'Sleepless in Seattle.' It was a girls night out and although small was successful. I even had a friend in DC email me asking for info on the organization from the pictures I put up on Facebook.

I wanted to say thank you for providing an opportunity like this. This was my first fundraiser. I love to volunteer and think it's important to give back but I have always been hesitant about fundraising because I don't like asking people for money. This was a wonderful chance to not only get my feet wet but also put together an event where I was providing something in return for the money people were donating." - Melinda.

Thank you Melissa for sharing about your event!

A Cocktail Party for Peruvian Hearts!

Pisco Sour mix, a Peruvian favorite!
We have had so many amazing and creative events for the 2010 ESTC campaign that I feel it's only fitting to share some on the blog. Daniela Cabrerizo from Lima, Peru wanted to raise funds for our partner in her country, Peruvian Hearts. They decided instead of a traditional dinner, they would have a cocktail party-so cool! She managed to raise an incredible $870.00 while having a blast and making some of the famous pisco sours for all guests to enjoy! Here is what Daniela says about her event:

"The event went great!! We did a kind of a cocktail party instead of a dinner. We got a lot of support from two of my friends. One that does catering (Capuli Gourmet), so she provided the snacks and the other that has a new product that is a mix for pisco sours (Wasska), so he provided some of the drinks and I put some wine. We also got a good location (one of my friend's parents house) and everybody was excited about participating. I put the introduction of the video, so everybody understands the reason for the event. I think everybody had a great time because the party lasted until 3am... it was fun. It has been great doing it and I am sure more people will jump into the challenge next year."

Thank you Daniela and I think the pisco sours idea might make it's way to our own Eat So They Can staff event next year, yum!

Congratulations Amanda- Our ESTC 2010 Grand Prize Winner!

Congratulations Amanda!
We are excited to announce that Amanda Golden from New York City, New York is our 2010 Eat So They Can Grand Prize Winner. Amanda will attend the distribution trip in Peru this year and have the opportunity to learn more about how GVN Foundation works and where the funds from Eat So They Can go! We called Amanda to tell her the good news and recorded her reaction; check out our website to hear the call!

We asked Amanda to tell us a little bit more about her event and experience with Eat So They Can and here is what she had to say:

"We found out about ESTC from two people who were on our (Kenya) trip. A lovely couple, Peter and Meryl Gamgee, who lived in the same house as we did until they left to go to work in Pipeline in Kenya. It sounded like such a great idea and made so much sense.

This was the second ESTC event that I held. Gaby Marden and I hosted the event together. We both traveled to Kenya in the summer of 2009 and had an unbelievable experience there. Planning the dinner party was so much fun. We had a great time shopping and cooking for the 40 people who came to our event. We are very fortunate to have wonderful family and friends who contributed to our event.

I couldn't believe when I got your phone call. I have never  won anything and am so excited to be able to distribute the supplies and see the process come full circle. I can't wait to learn more about the details of the trip. And wish that Gaby can come with me on another GVN adventure!"

2010 Distribution Team and local children
GVN and Eat So They Can have currently announced two distribution trips; the Kenya distribution trip will take place April 10-17 and the Peruvian distribution trip will be August 7-14. These trips are designed to be educational and as Amanda states, "participate in the process full circle."

If you think you might be interested in participating, please visit the GVN website to find out the details and sign-up!
