Get To Know The Interns, Part Two - Introducing Fiona

This week we hoped you could get to know the second of our three interns, Fiona Millar.

Fiona is originally from Sunderland, in the North of England, but moved to New Zealand when she was two years old. She doesn't remember much about Sunderland, but still supports their football team! She grew up in Christchurch, but moved to Wellington for university. Outside of her work with Eat So They Can, Fiona is completing a Bachelor of Arts majoring in Development Studies at Victoria University.

Fiona as a Sunderland Football Player?

What led you to working at GVNF and ESTC?
I really wanted to gain some experience in a development organisation to see what it was like behind the scenes. I heard about this position through my University and Eliza liked me enough to spend two days a week with me in the office!

What is your favourite part about your job, and what is your favourite part about ESTC itself?
My favourite part of my job is hearing about all the people who are keen to support Eat So They Can and the enormous effort they put into raising funds. It’s really awesome to hear about someone on the other side of the world who has never met you, volunteered or even heard of GVN before, but wants to do something to support Eat So They Can.

The thing that I love most about Eat So They Can is that it is based on making change in a positive and fun way. I love the idea that you can host a meal with friends and family while doing something to help others. It’s really different from anything I’ve ever come across before.

Tell us one hilarious anecdote about yourself.
I once got stuck in some bus doors while it was moving. It doesn’t sound too funny, but it was hilarious to watch (or so I’ve been told).

Fiona stuck in the door of a bus?

Are you as excited about the new transformers movie as I am? If not, why not, and what kind of movies would you prefer?
Yes, I am! Thinking of going tonight actually...

Fiona as a transformer?

And last but not least, if you were a pie what flavour would you be?
My favourite pie to eat is just plain mince... but if I were a pie, I’d rather be something exotic and delicious like Chicken, Mushroom and Leek. Mmm... I think it’s lunch time...

Fiona is our Ambassador Co-ordinator and Asia contact person. If you have any questions relating to these areas, you can contact her here.
