Goats in Uganda!

Hi ESTC supporters!

We've been busy distributing the funds raised through ESTC last year. Just thought I'd take a minute to write about one really exciting way the funds are being distributed in Uganda through our partner The Real Uganda.

The Real Uganda was established in 2004 by a former GVN volunteer, Leslie Weighill. The Real Uganda is a non-profit, non-governmental organisation which has partnered with GVN to provide ongoing skills and funding for local NGOs and schools.

The Real Uganda has received funding from Eat So They Can since 2008. With the funds raised last year, The Real Uganda provided funds to its partner project in Mpoma to start a goat project and help the Johnson Nkosi Memorial School become self sustainable.

The project already had the land, did the research and just needed initial funds to build a corral, purchase and vaccinate 400 goats and hire a goat keeper. The project will directly support 150 children orphaned by AIDS who attend the school.

Goats are a great resource as they are easy to take care of, they reproduce twice a year and their meat is in high demand in the area so gets a good price.

In the coming years this project will grow and provide increasing funds for the school, helping them become self sustainable. Once the project is up and running the school can also provide training to others wanting to start a similar project.

We're so pleased to be able to support The Real Uganda and Johnson Nkosi Memorial School through Eat So They Can! Thank you to all our supporters for making this possible!
