So you celebrated the New Year over a month ago and think I'm a bit late for the "Happy New Year" greeting? I'm talking about the
Chinese New Year which began February 3rd! 2011 is the year of the rabbit and falls between the year of the Tiger (2010) and the year of the Dragon (2012). According to the Chinese beliefs surrounding the year, the rabbit marks tranquility and calm and those born under the year of the rabbit are said to be kind, gentle, wise, considerate and fashionable. I have a feeling these traits sound much more desirable than what I might find should I look up my sign, the pig (sigh).

One of our fantastic Eat So They Can hosts decided to center her event around the Chinese New Year while celebrating in Hong Kong! Here is what Vincie had to say about her event:
"As we stuff ourselves with chinese delicacies during this festive season, spare a thought for those who die of hunger in many parts of the world. There'll be a big family feast kindly prepared by my mother, on February 4th, the Second Day of the year, at my parents' domicile, to which all our close family friends are invited. A little donation to support meaningful social causes does not only show your compassion to those who are in need, but also gratitude to the countless mothers like my mom who, night and day throughout the years, sweat their brows to cook for us and never complain.

| Hong Kong treats! |
I know many of you will be celebrating the new year with your own families, I wish you a wonderful time and lots of laughters to kick the year off with. Those who are married can consider giving a
red packet to feed the children in Africa or Haiti, as you would give to your own kids. Those who are single, why not contribute a fraction of the red packet money that you get to help send kids to school in impoverished countries. Think about it - if it wasn't the tradition of the chinese new year, we wouldn't receive this extra pocket money anyway! So let's be generous and forget about your next ipad or your next resort trip for the moment! Let us EAT and enjoy our chinese feast, SO that THEY CAN eat as well!"
Vincie thank you so much for sharing your story and hosting an event!
