Kilimanjaro and Eat So They Can

I'm lucky in my job. Almost everyday I am pleasantly surprised by the generosity and kindness of people. I constantly get emails from people wanting to send medical supplies to Africa, or raise money for a community center in Ecuador or educate people in their community about the effects of malnutrition.

This generosity I've seen first hand in our Fundraising Hike Participants. Just a few months ago, in January, a group of 18 people hiked the highest mountain in Africa - Mt. Kilimanjaro- to raise money for African youth. After they summited the mountain they traveled to Kenya to visit the kids that would benefit from the money they raised. Their adventurousness got them to the top of what is arguably one of the most difficult mountains in the world to climb. But what is even more amazing to me is their generosity. As a group they raised over $40,000 USD!

20 people raised well over $40,000 for kids they had never even met.

While I'm in Africa, in addition to allocating the funds from Eat So They Can, I will also be distributing the funds this fantastic group of people have raised.

I just want to give a shout out to all you Kilimanjaro 2008 climbers. You're amazing:

Courtney and Jeanne Going to Africa!

I am so excited to go to Africa and distribute the Eat So They Can (ESTC) 2007 funds to kids in need in Kenya! Jeanne, our ESTC winner, is also getting excited for our trip to Nairobi. She wanted you all to know the following:

"My adventure to Kenya is a short two months away. It is really starting to seem real , as Courtney and I have begun finalizing details of the trip. I’m so excited, yet anxious, because I know that much of what I see will be heart wrenching. It will be interesting to see if my vision of what to expect is anything close to reality. I look forward to sharing my experiences with all of you.

Best regards, Jeanne Sweetman"

Keep an eye on this blog as we chart our progress to and through Africa this May/June!
